Bold Interruptions Pay Off!

People are open to talking if we ask and have the boldness to initiate the conversation. We’ve collected lots of data from the conversations that have taken place over a number of years on the Why God Facebook page, it provides great insight to us.

An example of a bold interruption; is a simple private message to anyone that had made a comment on a post resulting in two in five (43%) people choosing to continue and engage in conversation.

Unlike interrupting hundreds of strangers on the street in any one day, the online space provides a perfect opportunity for an invitation to chat providing people with the power to choose to engage further at a time that works for them.

This bold interruption is a more unconventional approach and can cause a slightly more brash reaction or result as some people are surprised to be interrupted. To create a smooth interaction and reduce the chance of being blocked by Facebook, we had to ensure that people had the ability to unsubscribe from the chat. This gave the individual the power and the choice to engage in the conversation or to leave it.

Of the 8,223 conversations that started in this way, 13.5% of people moved toward God. This compares to 20.5% of people who moved toward God when they chose to initiate a private chat by clicking on the option to send a message directly from a Facebook post.
