Join our Response Team

Engaging with young adults who are exploring hope and purpose, especially during a time of crisis can be life-changing. It is possible to be instrumental in changing a person’s life just by taking the time to listen. We are looking to build a team of 625 faith-filled Christian volunteers who are trained to listen without judgement, and ask questions to discover underlying needs.

Response Team

As a responder, you will have the opportunity to chat with people online, hear their stories, care for them and help them to discover hope and purpose for themselves. The advantages of being a responder are huge. You will learn new skills, expand your social circle, gain a sense of purpose and grow in a deeper understanding of God’s truth and how to share it.

FAQs about the Response Team

What qualifications do I need to join the Response Team?

There are no educational requirements to be part of the Response Team. We are looking for people who are:

  • Good at active listening with sensitivity in asking questions

  • Loving Jesus and walking closely with Him

  • Teachable

  • Proficient in basic computer skills

  • At least 18 years old

  • Able to successfully complete the onboarding process and the online training modules

How do chats work?

We advertise on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube. People (Explorers) that interact with our ads will be invited into a private message with someone from our response team (Responders). The conversation is in text only through a private message chat between one of our business social media platforms and the Explorer’s personal social media account. We have a variety of different social media pages that we use for advertising, one of which is Why God

Do I need to be on social media?

No. While we chat with people on a variety of social media platforms, you do not need to have your own social media accounts. We use a response platform that connects directly to the different social media accounts and enables you to respond anonymously with Explorers who choose to interact with us.

What is required of me?

Your time commitment and dedication to fulfill the role. As a member of the Roaring Hope Response Team, we ask that you are available to spend a minimum of 2 hours a week online using your own phone or computer to chat.

In addition to this, because of the nature of the conversations, it’s important that you have prayer backup, encouragement, and the necessary support. Part of this is that you would need to find two friends to support you in prayer and regularly check in on you. Ask them to pray for you and for the people that you are chatting with.

What is the process for applying to join us?

  • First up you will be required to complete an initial questionnaire about yourself. This is sent to you automatically after completing the form at the bottom of this page.

  • You will need to provide the names of your two prayer support people. Click here to find out more.

  • A pastoral reference is required.

  • As part of your application process, you will be required to complete our online training. This can be done at your own pace and takes around 2-3 hours to complete. This will help to provide you with a clear understanding of your role as a Responder and includes some sample conversations for some practical learning.

  • We will require you to sign a Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement.

Once your application and online training have been completed, reviewed, and approved we will connect you to our response systems.

What training and support will I receive?

All of our response team will go through our training process. This will be conducted through our online training that can be completed at your own pace. Once you are ready to connect to our response system, we will provide a designated person from our team to give you oversight and feedback. There will be ongoing updates, communication, and support with the opportunity to meet with other people from the response team via video team catchups.

Am I cut out for the job?

The nature of responding to Explorers online does require someone who has the ability to handle a variety of situations that may be a bit challenging, and is not easily ‘rocked’ or ‘undone’. You may be challenged in your faith, confidence, and skill set which is why it’s important to have a strong support network in addition to the additional support on offer from the response team. Our Responders inform us that it is a very challenging yet rewarding opportunity for growth as you encounter different people and their stories. It’s not only life-changing for them, but it can be life-changing for you too.
