Don’t Underestimate Your Small Steps of Obedience

After sending out last month's update, my cousin Esther replied with an email;

“I am always challenged by how bold and willing you are to step out. And still think it's amazing.”

I cried. My mind immediately flashed back to when Esther had come to stay with me in 1998. She had asked if I would go to church with her that Sunday evening. I remember feeling like the pastor was changing his sermon to talk to me because he knew that I was not following Jesus. I remember thinking, ‘I’m not going to get sucked in by this’! When my boyfriend picked both of us up that night he asked “How was church?". My response was "I can think of better things to do with my time!.”

A few years later, and soon after I had made a decision to follow Jesus, Esther brought me a large study Bible. Written inside was the scripture, ‘being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus' - Philippians 1:6.

Did that night scare me or turn me away from God or my cousin? Nope! I knew she loved me, I knew what she believed. She hadn’t pushed me or made me feel uncomfortable, and she didn’t back off or get offended by anything I said to her either. She loved me just as I was, and look what happened.

Don't underestimate your small step of obedience!
