Embrace Digital But Don’t Lose Sight of The Human Connection

Over the past 4 years on the Why God platform, we have gathered some great insights. We have learned that it’s incredibly time-intensive to have a team of people available to engage and respond in private chat and to do that well. People want to talk at any time of the day or night and in this instant world, they expect an instant response.

Chatbots are an effective avenue to enable more conversations to take place and also provide an opportunity for 24/7 interaction.

As well as being efficient, chatbots are an effective form of engagement. Chatbots allow people to choose their own pathway of discovery as they are given options to choose which content (messaging, blogs, and videos) they want to engage with to learn more about God. A chatbot can provide options like a number of successful pathways for people to be introduced to Jesus, an avenue for people to know how to pray, and a guided prayer of commitment to follow Jesus. Prior to our chatbot being introduced, interactions with the team resulted in 15% of people moving toward God. For those that engaged in a chatbot-only conversation, the rate was 12% moving toward God.

What are the outcomes of connecting via a chatbot?

The highest success rate to date has been possible when our audience started with a chatbot and then opted to chat with a team member, resulting in 29% of that audience moving toward God. From these learnings we discovered that technology is a really helpful tool that we can learn to refine further to engage people in a conversation; however, human interaction is needed to continue the journey to faith.
