Pacing the Conversation
If you’ve ever tried to talk about Jesus with someone who is curious or where you would like to ignite conversation, you may have noticed that there needs to be an intentional approach in engaging, showing care, listening and sharing our own opinions.
Questions are an important part of what we do on the Response Team in engaging with people who have started a private message with us through our Why God Facebook page. Questions help to bring direction, or reignite the discussion, and encourage Explorers to discover Jesus for themselves.
We’d love to help equip you in some questions you could ask during your everyday conversations. It’s amazing how questions can help to launch a discussion about God in a very relational and natural way.
Here are some example questions we use that we would love to pass on to you:
Is there something you’d like God to do for you?
Was there something you had in mind that you wanted to talk about?
Jesus is a great listener and answers in the most amazing ways. Have you tried speaking to Jesus to ask for clarity?
Can I ask, did anything stand out to you?
Did you find anything particularly interesting?
Have you ever talked to God before?
Have you ever tried talking to God about it?
Is there something in your life you wish was better?
If you don't mind me asking, what led you to that conclusion?
Would you like me to pray with you about that?
What are your thoughts about God?
I'd be interested in knowing what you know, would you like to share?
Can I ask why you think your life should be better or worse depending on if God is real or not?
Give them a go when you are having intentional conversations with people and see if there are any opportunities to go deeper and encourage someone. It’s amazing what genuine care and curiosity can do to create an open conversation!
