What Does The Word 'Home' Mean To You?

I’ve recently been reflecting on a conversation I had a number of years ago when the Missions pastor at my church had asked me where my home was. She prefaced the question by pointing out that I had used the word 'home' a number of times. I had been sharing about my overseas adventures in different nations, my home in Australia, and then coming back home to see everyone in New Zealand. I paused. I hadn’t realised I had used the word so flippantly, yet had I? I paused some more, my mind flooded with memories of how much God had moved my heart. I used to feel homesick any time I went away from my house, even for a night.

My home had now become wherever God had called me, even if for only a night. My location didn’t matter, it was the posture of my heart that was important and that I was taking the next step of obedience.

Home isn’t always a place of comfort, but it’s a place where the heart is at rest. My rest had only come from hearing God and in faith taking the steps I knew I was to take. It was only then that everything changed.

I have an ornament in my house which is 4 simple letters moulded with concrete, creating the word ‘HOME’. I’ve found myself reflecting that home is cemented in my heart, yet the daily destination must remain supple and moving where God leads.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. We are praying God moves your heart to take faith steps to be obedient to where he is calling you. It’s not always comfortable but the rewards are outside of this world!
