What Would You Have Done Without a Helping Hand in Your Life?

Life is never meant to be done on our own. What would you have done without a helping hand in your life? Perhaps you’re reading this and thinking, I could do with one right now! If so, let this be an encouragement to be bold or brave and reach out.

It’s often on reflecting on the places that you’ve been that you can have the capacity to give others a helping hand, however, I am always so grateful that I don’t have to have been everywhere myself! In listening to others and understanding the plight of where they have come from, we gain deeper insight and are able to grow in our own comprehension and understanding without having to take the journey ourselves.

I’ve often talked about listening and how important that is. Sometimes I know excitement and zeal can cause me to talk too much, but if I can sit in the sometimes uncomfortable spaces in between, I can literally be a spectator as stories unfold and people discover hope for themselves.

I was at a bonfire on Saturday night, an old pile of wood was being used for burning and to tidy up the offcuts that had been thrown there over time. What stood out to me were the snake skins that were entangled throughout the wood. One was a broken, crumpled-up python skin, that had come from part of the body. The other was still in almost perfect formation from a small snake approximately 30cm long. You could clearly see where its eyes had been, and its mouth was positioned open. The snake had long gone, shedding the old and allowing for the new skin. Like snakes, some people can get a clean break from their own skin, while others leave parts in different locations.

When we can apply the love and care we need for ourselves to others, we allow people to open up around us and bring hope.

Is there a circumstance in your life right now where you need to see change? What questions can you ask yourself that would help to support hope in your situation, and are there any uncomfortable silences you need to sit with for a while?
